LASIK Eye Surgery

Using eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct your vision is a thing of the past for those in Los Angeles. Using today’s technology, The Reingold Eye Center offers the latest in vision correction technologies as an alternative to corrective lenses or glasses. LASIK is a surgical procedure that corrects the eye's ability to focus by changing the shape of the cornea. LASIK eye surgery can significantly improve eyesight and generally eliminate or reduce the need for corrective lenses and glasses for distance activities.

How Does LASIK Correct My Vision?

Understanding how refractive surgery improves vision requires a basic understanding of refractive errors and how the eye focuses light. Light bends as it passes through a curved surface, a process called refraction. In your eye, the two main refractive surfaces are the outer surface, the cornea, and the lens inside the eye. These two, along with the eye's other internal structures, work together to focus light on the retina in the back of the eye. The cornea provides most of the focus as light passes through it, before being fine-tuned by the lens. If light is not focused correctly on the retina, a blurry image is sent to the brain. This is known as a refractive error.
VIDEO DESCRIPTION: Common refractive errors that affect our eyes' ability to focus clearly are explained in this short video presentation.

Does Dr. Reingold Offer the Latest LASIK Technology?

Dr. Reingold offers three of the latest LASIK technology procedures: Intralase (Bladefree, “all laser LASIK”), Allegretto (Wavelight), and Visx (CustomVue)

Intralase
This treatment uses a state of the art IntraLase, laser instead of a scalpel, to create a corneal flap. In seconds, over a million computer-controlled pulses of laser light are delivered to the cornea, safely passing through its outer layers before reaching its target. There, the laser produces a series of tiny gas bubbles that join together to create the flap. With IntraLase laser technology, eye surgeons can create a custom flap of the desired size, thickness, orientation, and location to correct your vision. read more...

Allegretto (WaveLight)
The second step in LASIK is reshaping the cornea under the flap. Once gently lifted, the WaveLight Allegretto System does this using the fastest and newest excimer laser system available. The Allegretto Wave uses high resolutions to delicately reshape the cornea with a small laser of less than 1mm diameter. The Allegretto Wave, which includes both WaveFront optimization and PerfectPulse Technology, is considered by many to be the most effective and the safest excimer laser system currently available.

Visx (CustomVue)
Another technology to reshape the cornea, Visx is tailored to produce the distinct corrections your eyes may need. WaveScan technology can determine tiny imperfections that were previously immeasurable and provides twenty-five times the precision of standard methods. A detailed map of the eye is produced by the WaveScan technology, and this information is translated into treatment instructions for the CustomVue laser. read more...

Refractive Monovision Surgery

VIDEO DESCRIPTION: Refractive monovision surgery is done on just one eye so it is used for distance viewing while the other serves for close work, such as reading.
